"Nepali Turmeric Powder" Organic
Turmeric's presence is seen all throughout India and Nepal. Our organic turmeric root comes from Nepal. Turmeric is associated with the Lord Krishna. It is used to dye fabric and garments. Turmeric-dyed sashes are worn around the neck on wedding days throughout the region. During the pre-wedding Haldi Ritual, turmeric paste is applied to the engaged couple to cleanse and purify the skin. A custom called Ritual of Happiness, or Talambralu, is performed at the wedding's end, where the newly married couple shower each other with a mixture of rice, turmeric, saffron and pearls.
Turmeric contains a natural compound (polyphenol) called curcumin, which has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. It reduces pain and inflammation in the body, induces better sleep, and decreases depression.
Turmeric has been used in Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine (the still-practiced Ancient Indian system of natural healing) since around 500 BCE.
Turmeric powder can be infused into a tisane or used in cooking.
